چکیده

An 82-year-old woman with a history of previous cerebral infarction and atrial fibrillation was hospitalized with aphagia. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed a dot-like high signal intensity in the left occipital subcortex. With a working diagnosis of acute cerebral infarction due to cardiac emboli, trans-thoracic echocardiography (TTE) was performed. The TTE showed an oval shaped, mobile thrombus, approximately 1.9 × 1.5 cm in size within the left atrial appendage. For further evaluation of mobile thrombus in the left atrial appendage, a trans-esophageal echocardiography (TEE) was done. The TEE showed an oval shaped, mobile thrombus in the left atrial appendage (Fig. 1A). Subsequently, during follow-up TTE, the thrombus was found to be freely floating in the left atrial cavity during each cardiac cycle (Fig. 1B-F and SupplepISSN 1975-4612/ eISSN 2005-9655 Copyright © 2013 Korean Society of Echocardiography www.kse-jcu.org http://dx.doi.org/10.4250/jcu.2013.21.3.152

Syncope Due to a Free-floating Left Atrial Thrombus

A 74-year-old woman with nonvalvular chronic atrial fibrillation was admitted for pre-syncope. She fainted and developed acute arterial occlusion after one month of admission. Echocardiogram showed a 2.6×2.8-cm free-floating ball thrombus in the left atrium (LA) that had not been documented at the initial admission. Its left lateral decubitus position caused left ventricular (LV) inflow obstruc...

Free-floating left atrial thrombus and systemic embolization.

A patient with mitral stenosis and systemic thromboemboli is presented. Two-dimensional echocardiography demonstrated a spherical thrombus floating freely within the left atrium which was corroborated by postmortem examination. This case is unique in its clinical outcome and provides insight into the pathogenesis of such left atrial thrombi.

Uneventful Disappearance of a Large Left Atrial Ball Thrombus with Enoxaparin in a Patient with Mitral Stenosis Associated with Pregnancy

An atrial thrombus is a relatively common echocardiographic finding in patients with mitral valve stenosis (MVS) and atrial fibrillation (AF). However, a "ball thrombus" or floating thrombus in the left atrium is a rare and specific entity associated with MVS. A 24-year-old woman with rheumatic MVS presented with complaints of progressive dyspnea and inferior limbs edema that began 23 days earl...

A Free - Floating Ball Valve Thrombus in the Left Atrium: Diagnosed Clinically and by Trans Thoracic Two - Dimensional Echocardiography

A Free-floating ball valve thrombus in the left atrium is a rare clinical entity and has been reported infrequently in Indian literature despite the high incidence of Rheumatic mitral valve stenosis. Early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention are mandatory otherwise it may lead to catastrophic consequence. We are presenting our experience with one such case which was diagnosed clinically ...

Echocardiographic findings of floating thrombus in left atrium.

We describe the M-mode and two-dimensional echocardiographic findings of a floating thrombus in the left atrium. Though the features resembled those of pedunculated left atrial myxoma, two-dimensional echocardiography was helpful in differentiating between thrombus and myxoma in the left atrium.
